Dialectical Behavior Therapy

I offer a complete DBT therapy program.

My DBT training has been through the experts at Behavioral Tech, the “gold standard” for this form of therapy, originated by Marsha Linehan at the University of Seattle. DBT is a specialized form of therapy that focuses on developing Mindfulness skills in a number of specific areas that help with increasing an individual’s ability to:

  • tolerate anxiety and distress in situations that cannot be immediately changed;
  • identifying and regulating intense emotions rather than acting on them impulsively or ineffectively (sometimes this may possibly include forms of self-harm or injury like cutting or suicidal feelings and urges).
  • learn how to create and/or nurture friendships, relationships, how to say “no” and developing skills around communicating and getting needs met effectively.

During our adolescent/parent group, in addition to the above, we also focus on issues around:

  • bullying
  • improving parent/adolescent relationships
  • helping parents around what is typical with adolescents and behavior that is concerning

DBT is one of the only treatment modalities that has been proven effective in helping individuals struggling with these issues. This form of therapy has been adapted for treatment with individuals and groups in a number of other areas: Eating Disorders, Substance Use and Addiction, PTSD and Trauma. I received specialized training in each of these areas through Behavioral Tech and PESI. A key component of DBT therapy is its emphasis on utilizing both individual and group therapy to achieve substantial and rapid improvement.
